Contest: Valentine's "Extreme Profile Makeover"

Posted by Ria, 21 Jan

To celebrate Valentine's Day, AfroRomance.com members who have made a commitment to not let another year pass without presenting their best self and maximize every opportunity to meet "The One," are invited to enter to win an "Extreme Profile Makeover," complete with personal coaching from celebrity love coaches, Matthew Hussey (for the female winner) and Jordan Harbinger (for the male winner), a free session with a Nordstrom's personal stylist and $1,000.00 spending allotment for clothes, shoes and personal care.

Find your soulmate on AfroRomance

Jordan Harbinger

One lucky woman will get exclusive, one-on-one coaching (via Skype) with life coache Hussy. Matthew Hussey gained meteoric success helping women all over the world to "Get the Guy," and will star in Eva Longoria's NBC series, "Ready for Love", premeiring in March 2013. Now, through his DVDs, his viral Internet broadcasts, his sell-out "Secrets of Attraction" seminars, his weekend group workshops and his roster of private clients, he has been able to pass on his insights and strategies to countless more women. 50,000 women have attended his live events and he has reached over 4 million online. Hussey is the new international guru of the dating and relationship-coaching scene.

The male winner gets some time with Jordan Harbinger, co-founder of The Art of Charm, has had an international satellite and internet radio presence for years, been featured on the Today Show, Details Magazine, Psychology Today, the New York Press, New York Daily News, are regular contributors to the Huffington Post, and even Saturday Night Live, bringing The Art of Charm message and mission to tens of millions of men around the globe. The Art of Charm helps men resurrect the lost art of conversation and teach them how to use humor, conversational agility and (most importantly) their body language to become master communicators–guys that are equally comfortable regaling a dinner party and enchanting a beautiful woman.

In conjunction with the one-on-one session, the two winners will receive a $900 gift certificate at Nordstrom’s and are encouraged to meet with a personal stylist to help them create a signature look. Finally, the winners will have a $100 Visa gift card to use at the salon of their choice for a new cut, color or hair style.

To enter, AfroRomance.com members must submit an essay (200 words max) about why they feel like their profile needs a makeover. Two winners will be selected on Valentine's Day - one male, one female. Send essays to contest@AfroRomance.com.

I spend my private and professional life nurturing and caring for others. To be honest, I feel that is my calling...to care for others. Lately my BFF told me I need to give myself some attention and TLC and sort of gave me permission to do so. It really made me stop and consider what she was suggesting. I adore my children, family and friends. I am a Peds RN that cares for medically fragile, technology dependent children and care deeply for them and their families. It is truly an honor to be a part of the lives of these amazing little ones!! So, I am taking my BFF's advice and putting myself out there... For a makeover and of course a love life!!:). I could use some savvy advice and guidance in all areas....please help me find my happily ever after!

28 is such an awkward age. You're really starting to figure out who you are and what you really want out of life. And I feel that throughout my 20s...I wasn't ready to have a real meaningful relationship. I did have a lot fun and met a couple of toads along the way. I'm ready to take that leap. My psychic told me that I was going to meet my soul mate this year. She might be on to something...So here I am taking a proactive approach to finding love . I'm not above asking for adivce though :-)

At my retirement age, many are shocked when I tell them what it is. I try to take care of myself inside and out. There has not been anyone special in my life (except my family), for some time and I would like to date again. M Young men are attracted to me, but change when they find out my age. I want to find someone my own age realm. Perhaps a different look will help. I am a bit edgy and can't stand that middle age look. Help!

Wonderfully happy! That describes my emotional state right now, because 2013 is the year I find the man that finds me to be his dream come true. I wanna look my very best for this incredibly beautiful individual. I have so much to give & offer. I want my face & appearance to match my heart. Thank you to all who reads & shares... and Good luck to everyone. We all have sad tales to tell...but I'm saving those to share with my future husband.

I am in my early 50's and unencumbered. Needless to say I don't go to all the places I used to. There aren't many men to be met whilst getting a facial or message. I work for myself so it can be difficult. I interact more with clients than anyone else. The interracial thing....I have one thing to say....LIGHT SKINNED BLACK GIRLS NEED LOVE TOO!! And lets face it the proper tools ANd a makeover!!!!???~!!! YES PLEASE!!

At times like this nothing would be more important to me than a make over in my profile. At 45 and counting, people look up to me as a role model and therefore would like an improved me that would give succor to their lives. My pet project is "Tales of my fathers Foundation" and caters for the financial and material needs of the many mostly youths that have creativity in them. This is why I need a humble and dedicated woman who would be willing to do this self sacrificing assignment with me like the Florence Nightingales and Mary Slessors of this world.

I just turned 45 in December and I am looking for romance. I spent my younger years being unhappy with myself and now that making progress in the being the woman that God had intended me to be, I am finding that I want someone special to have me as I am. I want to form a friendship with special man first then build upon the things that we have in common. I want to be wooed and I want to spoil that special man. I have been on interracial match for a while and this year I want to find that special someone. Winning this contest would be the push that I need to find my mate. Thank you.

Like many, I've spent far too much time on career, and not enough on a relationship. While I can work to regain my natural queenly shape, I cannot regain time lost, fight age, or even know what a man means when they say "I want a real woman". I'm as real a woman as a man could want and I'm not looking to hurt anyone or play games. So, obviously I'm doing something wrong. And since when does 'dating' mean 'hooking up'? I'm not here to 'hook up' for a one-time-only thing....I'm seeking a meaningful and deep relationship with the right man. Please help me!

I'm writing this essay to convey what many people are feeling these days...loneliness. I've spent many years in self-hate over my looks due to early child abuse that left me with strongs feelings of insecurity. I just believed that men wanted me for sex and that I just couldn't compete with the "pretty" girls; the one's who easily found mates. I now know that beauty comes from self acceptance regardless of what others think of you. I also know that I was promoting a self-fulfilling prophesy about my looks by neither caring for my health nor making an effort to fix myself up. I have begun to allow God to love me and make me into an elegant and bodacious woman of 44. I've returned to school [soon to graduate in Social Work for at-risk youth], have changed my diet and exercise habits and believe that there is a man who will treat me in an honorable way. I am a full-time student and cannot afford to do but the minimum on this site and for my self. Although this is true, I finally hope that I will find love. Winning this make-over would be such a God-send and I believe would increase my hope of finally finding my love. I have lived too long without hugs and kisses and a deep, long-lasting friendship. Will you help me? Thank you.

The dating scene has changed tremendously and it hard to find quality companionship. Dating men of varying nationalities, including my own, does not make it easier! I am a small business owner with fun loving qualities. I am culturally well rounded and and love life!. I would love to have further help in this area of my life, so that can enjoy it with a wonderful partner !

Hello, I like the way I look @ 56. However, I think with assistance with make up and advice. I can enhance my features. I am curious as to what experts would say after a consultation. I wonder should I cut my hair? Wear different types of clothing, colors etc.. I am open to feedback and constructive criticism. Men , both black and white appear attracted to me. But, I want the person that rocks my boat. Not necessarily the man whose boat I rock...hope that makes sense. I have a dark complexion, so I would love advice on colors for make up. I hardly wear any. Iwant the best advantage to find the love of my life. I am a social worker in new york. I help others on a daily basis. Maybe now it is my turn....

In my 20's, 30's and 40's I was riding the super-freeway of love. Now, at 53 I've realized there are not so many cars drivin on that freeway of love with me anymore. As an older woman with a 14 year old son it is a bit difficult to find that gentleman in my age range willing to go through the teen years while dreaming of retirement (lots of laughing). Add to that narrow category of eligible batchelor's... the fact that I as a white woman prefer to date men of african american or latin desent well that certainly complicates the process. I am forever hopeful though and just need some help showing the great qualities I have to share with someone and communicating that in my profile. I am well-rounded, educated (finish my Master's in May 2013), an entrepreneur and have a great sense of humor. HELP
