This brought tears to my eyes. I too have been celibate by choice for 13 years. My reason was two-fold: My heart was utterly broken but: 2} I still loved the man who'd broken my heart. He didn't cheat. He was a good man but issues happened that he couldn't handle such as the depression and anxiety I suffered at the loss of my closest friend-my sister. Over that 13 year period of time I, without realizing it, no longer thought of myself as a woman or as someone who could be loved other than by family. So. I stayed to myself becoming 90% reclusive. I have now gotten past that stage and have decided to put myself out there in the dating realm. I'm scared. But I'm also lonely and I miss the person I once was so I've decided to take a leap of faith. Yet I still ask myself who would want a 62 year old woman who is overweight by a lot and has a back problem? I don't look sexy like I use to nor do I feel sexy because I don't look sexy. I once was a beauty desired by many. Because of my depression and back I've had to take medications that helped pack on the weight. Because of my back I became more sedentary. The weight I can deal with. The plans are in the works and my mind is in the zone for losing it. But I also realize I need to get my mind in the zone of believing, truly believing, that I am still beautiful...just in a different way. I recently had a very good looking, athletic built man who is 12 years my junior message me and wrote, "U R Very Beautiful". It literally took my breath away. He also added that he prefers to communicate via phone and gave me his number. His take on getting to know each other? Friends first, then lovers. That also caught me in a positive way. So, I am going to take the plunge, use much of the advice you've given Matthew, and just be who I am. Me.
